We have a bit of an international love story here…. My favorite kind! Victoria & Volkan met at Nikki Beach Midtown. She was attending a birthday party and he and his football team was celebrating their last few days before returning to Turkey.
Victoria’s group happened to be sitting at a table right next to Volkan’s team. After several failed attempts from Volkan’s manager to have a drink with him, she caved and gave him her number. She recalls thinking, “What the hell, I’ll never see him again. He lives in Turkey where ever that is?” He called her the very next day and that evening marked their first date. The date was unexpectedly amazing and lasted into the next morning, which sadly was he day of departure.
She was pleasantly surprised at his immediate text messages upon his return. They spoke everyday for 2 months when she received another great surprise. He had purchased airplane tickets for her and her sister to Turkey for a MONTH!
It was on that very trip that they knew they had found “the one”. Even though communication barriers (Volkan did not speak English well) they managed to share intimate details of their lives with one another without any fear. It was a first for them both! They both admitted to missing each other instantly after their love struck NYC encounter.
After having what she claims as “The best vacation of my life” was over they resumed back to their daily online sessions. It was not enough for Volkan whom surprised her after only a month of being apart by returning to the scene of the crime, NYC. He was only in town for 2 nights, against his football contract, and did not waste anytime. He scooped her up from her apartment took her to a fabulous dinner at Batlazar and proposed in front of a full house!
Victoria & Volkan told her parents immediately, then gave her 3 weeks at work and moved rather quickly to begin her future with her new fiancé.
Some say it’s crazy but for them they knew they would do anything to be with each other.
They were married on June 15th 2012 at the Plaza Hotel. She wore a gorgeous gown from Cymbeline Paris.
Thank you Victoria & Volkan. This was a true testament that when you have find the right one, you never let them go!
