This story began 13 years ago at a bar in Brooklyn called Spectrums where they filmed the movie Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta. Spectrums was known for the infamous light on the dance floor. Michael was dancing on stage and Richie’s friend Angelica came up to him and said her friend wanted to meet. The rest is history! Since that day Michael said, “I knew I would spend the rest of my life with him.”
THE PROPOSAL:
Michael and Richie were dating 3 years before Richie proposed.
They were in Richie’s apartment in Brooklyn reviewing blueprints for a cottage they were about to start construction on. Richie was not paying attention to anything Michael was saying, which was out of character. In the middle of reviewing plans, Richie said he wasn’t feeling well and wanted Michael to heat him up soup. Michael went to get the soup and on top was this little black box. All Michael remembers hearing was I want you to be my forever. He was so overjoyed and couldn’t wait to share the news with family and friends.
Michael and Richie chose the Harbor Club at Prime because of the chic elegant and sophisticated design. Being that there were two grooms they didn’t want a traditional space. The room was a blank canvas, which allowed Michael to make the space his own by adding his own personal touches and detail to the entire room! Check out the stunning details of this wedding. We wouldn’t have expected anything less from the astounding planner himself!
THE COLORS/THEMES/STYLES OF THE DAY:
I know this may sound crazy to some but the theme was inspired from a pair of Christian Louboutin’s stripe sneakers Michael wore for the reception. He LOVED the stripes on the sneakers so he carried that theme throughout the entire event in a glamorous and sophisticated way. Michael’s mission was to create a masculine feel throughout the event with hints of glamour. He wanted a timeless and classic feel so they chose black-and-white as the primary colors. It started with the wedding invite, which was a black silk folio with their names embroidered on the front in white stitching. Inside was the classic invite with playful RSVP cards (with black and white stripes). The linens for the cocktail hour/escort table were black and white accented with beautiful blossoms of yellow roses and orchids.
THE CEREMONY DÉCOR:
The Ceremony took place July 26, 2014 and was held at the Harbor Club on their outdoor deck. Pat from The Showplace created custom white aisle boxes trimmed in black wood molding to flank each side of the aisle. On top he had wheat grass recessed to give that pop of color. He wanted a very clean and minimal look. Every 8 feet they had bursts of white phalaenopsis orchids leading to the base of aisle where they had two large arrangements filled with greens and phalaenopsis orchids. Finished off with a huge hedge of greens and phalaenopsis orchids cascading for their backdrop. Pedestals Florist created a floral paradise. This design element was changed at last minute. In Michael’s own words,” Kim Kardashian stole my look LOL I was planning to do a full wall of roses, hydrangea, and phalaenopsis orchids.”
THE FLOWERS (BOUQUETS & BOUTONNIERES):
NO boutonnieres because Michael is not a fan. He wore a custom lapel pin that Jacob & Company created using his grandmothers wedding set. Richie wore a silk flower with black Swarovski to crystals. The groomsmen wore gold lapel pins with their initials from Jacob & Company. The girls carried a small clutch of phalaenopsis orchids.
THE CENTERPIECES & RECEPTION DÉCOR:
In Michael’s words, the flowers were “EPIC.” Pedestal Florist created two different looks for them:
A: a sophisticated and stylish design using 10 clusters of 25 roses, mounds of phalaenopsis orchids finished off with giant manzanita leaves
B: mounds of green leaves bursting out if the center of roses, hydrangea and phalaenopsis orchids. Finished off with 20 three foot strands of hanging dendrobium orchids and clear glass globes and candles.
Table numbers were black and white stripe with only the numbers covered in crystals designed by the wedding company of Manhasset
Table linens were silver sequence that looked like giant disco balls. Michael was obsessed with them so he designed the whole table from that. Table Wraps also created the most epic cake table and dais. The Cake table was the black-and-white stripes with a black tulle skirt. Dais was aqua blue sequence square with black and white stripes shooting out of pleated corners.
Michael’s best advice to any bride or groom to be is:
Take photos before because this saves time to then enjoy more of the party.
Also, do a receiving line after the ceremony so you can say hi to everyone.
Biggest tip: Relax, the day will happen as it should…
